Supercritical secures new funding to expand carbon removal supply development

New capital will fund project development and commercialization as corporate demand accelerates.

LONDON, May 07, 2026—Supercritical, the #1 carbon removal marketplace, today announced a new funding round led by Greencode Ventures with participation from existing investors, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, RTP Global, and LocalGlobe. The capital will be used to expand Supercritical's supply development program.

As corporate demand for permanent carbon removal grows in the run up to 2029 compliance markets, the pipeline of new projects that meet buyer requirements is not keeping pace. Supercritical's marketplace data and years of working with corporate buyers give it a clear view of where the market falls short of what corporate buyers need.

With this investment, the company will scale its project development and commercialization work, bringing new supply online from engineering design through to signed deals, unlocking financing for projects to build the hard physical infrastructure required for global net zero. Supercritical has now facilitated nearly 2 million tonnes of carbon removal, including a ten-year, one-million-tonne biochar offtake, the largest US biochar deal to date.

“The gap between a promising project idea and a signed deal is wide,” said Michelle You, CEO and Co-Founder of Supercritical. “Closing it requires detailed engineering plans, lifecycle assessments, audit-ready MRV, and commercial structures that hold up to corporate due diligence. This funding enables us to systematize our work to help promising projects around the world get to market faster, at higher quality, and at bigger scale.”

“Carbon removal is climate infrastructure,” said Terhi Vapola of Greencode Ventures. “The companies that succeed will be the ones that can actually build it, taking promising projects and getting them to commercial scale. That's what Supercritical has proven it can do.”

Supercritical works across biochar, enhanced rock weathering, direct air capture, mineralization, and other permanent pathways. Its scientific vetting protocol, led by Director of Climate Science Dr. Mai Bui, rejects 88% of projects assessed.
